How HealthEase Registered 3M+ Patient Visits at the Institute of Skin Diseases

Institute of Skin Diseases (ISD)

A government skin hospital in Karachi moved its OPD from paper slips to HealthEase, registering 3M+ patient visits over 2+ years at 3,000–5,000 patients a day, each in 15–20 seconds, with exact daily, monthly and yearly reports.

Overview

The Institute of Skin Diseases in Karachi is a government hospital whose outpatient department sees 3,000 to 5,000 patients every day, all within a window of about four and a half hours.

For over two years, every one of those visits ran through HealthEase. The engagement was sponsored by a leading pharmaceutical company, and in that time HealthEase registered more than 3 million patient visits.

ISD is also where HealthEase began. The system went live here in March 2024 as a patient queue system, built by Dex N Hex, the business that later became Vanta (Private) Limited. Everything HealthEase does today grew out of what this outpatient department needed.

The Challenge

Before HealthEase, ISD's OPD ran on numbered paper slips. Patients were handed a number and waited their turn. It was fast, but it left nothing behind:

  • No patient records. Once a slip was used, the visit was gone.
  • Approximate reporting. Daily and monthly patient counts were estimates, not data.
  • No visibility into workload. There was no way to see how many patients each doctor was actually seeing.

Any replacement had to match the speed of handing out paper: at peak, that meant one patient every 3 to 4 seconds across the hospital.

The Solution

Dex N Hex (now Vanta) deployed HealthEase as the hospital's complete OPD system, covering:

  • Registration and EMR, so every patient visit is recorded digitally
  • Queue management, routing patients to doctors and balancing the load automatically
  • Reporting, with separate daily reports for the male and female OPDs, plus monthly and yearly reports
  • Analytics, giving hospital management a real picture of patient flow

Rollout: 1.5 Months, Start to Finish

Dex N Hex delivered the project end to end, not just the software:

  • Built registration counters and counter rooms on site
  • Supplied laptops, printers, thermal rolls and internet connectivity
  • Ran four patient counters with four operators, plus one operator for data entry
  • Placed its own staff at the counters, then trained two ISD employees, who ran the system alongside them
  • Trained non-technical hospital staff to use the system confidently

The sponsor's initial six-month contract was renewed three times in a row, and the system ran every day for more than two years.

Results

Registration speed matched paper. Trained operators registered each patient in 15 to 20 seconds, fast enough for four counters to keep up with 5,000 patients in a single morning.

Every visit became a record. More than 3 million patient visits were captured digitally, where before there were none.

Reports went from estimates to exact numbers. Management received accurate daily, monthly and yearly figures for the male and female OPDs.

Workload was distributed fairly. The queue system assigned patients to doctors more evenly than paper slips ever had, so actual workloads became visible and patients were spread across available doctors.

Non-technical staff adopted it. Hospital staff with no prior software experience ran the system every day.

From a Queue to a Hospital System

Two years of daily use at this scale kept asking for more: patient records, prescriptions, billing, pharmacy, inventory, wards, staff attendance and reports. The queue system ISD started with became the clinic and hospital management software HealthEase is today.

What ISD's Doctors Say

In late 2025, Dex N Hex surveyed doctors and staff across ISD's male and female OPDs about the switch from manual receipts. Of 12 respondents, 11 of them doctors:

  • 11 of 12 said OPD throughput improved, 8 of them significantly
  • All 12 recommended keeping the system permanently
  • Patient flow smoothness rated 4.6 out of 5

What the Deployment Proved

From March 2024 until the sponsored engagement concluded in 2026, HealthEase ran ISD's OPD every day. In that time it registered more than 3 million patient visits, 3,000 to 5,000 a day at 15 to 20 seconds each, the sponsor renewed its contract three times in a row, and all 12 surveyed doctors and staff recommended keeping the system permanently.
